Umera Ahmed
Umera Ahmed (Urdu: عمیرہ احمد) is widely regarded as Pakistan’s most celebrated contemporary author and screenwriter. Born in Sialkot in 1976 and trained in English Literature at Murray College, she began publishing short stories in Urdu digests in 1998 and has since become one of the most widely read fiction writers of her generation, with more than 30 novels and short story collections to her name. Her bestsellers includes Peer-e-Kamil, Aab-e-Hayat, Alif, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Shehr-e-Zaat, Amar Bail, Aks and many others
Her work rarely stays on the page for long: novels like Alif, Shehr-e-Zaat, and Zindagi Gulzar Hai have been adapted into some of the highest-rated drama serials in Pakistani television history. Zindagi Gulzar Hai, starring Sanam Saeed and Fawad Khan, became a cultural phenomenon watched across Pakistan, India, and the Pakistani diaspora worldwide. Alif, starring Sajal Ali and Hamza Ali Abbasi, further cemented her reputation for blending spirituality, romance, and social commentary into stories that resonate across generations.
In 2016, she founded Alif Kitab, a digital platform that helps new writers publish and monetize their own work, extending her influence beyond her own writing to help shape the next generation of Pakistani storytellers.
